My Work as Origami Fractal Wall Art

I have spent years trying to explain what I do. The best description I feel is Tie dye Origami Fractal Art. I have called it Geometriart as well, a name I came up with to describe it.

I feel this art comes to me through a higher dimension and manifests as a type of Fractal energy. A fractal is a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole, a property called self-similarity.

I fold the cloth in geometric patterns using an origami method to get the fractal designs in perfect symmetry.

My method is different than most Tie Dye artist use. Although there are many commonalities, since I also I use the Procion dyes, string and cloth.

I started using bed sheets for my Mandalas years ago since they were the perfect size to fit an 8 ft window without seams.

I still prefer using fine Egyptian cotton sheets today for the Mandala work. They are the perfect canvas for this type of design. When properly framed these colorful tie dyed cotton makes wonderful wall art.

Origami Fractal Art is also very intuitive work and I follow my inner guidance that I seem to receive when going into this mode. For me it is like a meditation state. When I open the piece up I am always amazed at the fractals I see and the similarity to the mandelbrot set of fractals that I notice within the art.

So, what are fractals? They're everywhere, those bright, weird, beautiful shapes called fractals. But what are they, really?

Fractals are geometric figures, just like rectangles, circles and squares, but fractals have special properties that those figures do not have. but of more complicated geometric figures. Many natural objects - ferns, coastlines, etc. - are shaped like fractals. This is the amazing. magical nature of what is manifesting in each of my art pieces.

I seem to have some higher sense about where to go with each piece as I fold, tie and dye. This is why I never have two designs exactly the same. Of course, when making wall art backdrops I intend to create them approximately alike.
